Caves (Roguelike) Tips: Potions

Here are Caves (Roguelike) Tips about potions, what they do, and how to best use them.

Health Potion:

Heals you overtime.

Fire Potion:

  - Throw on mobs to deal fire damage especially on the location of certain mobs that go invisible not only to spite them, but also for a chance to destroy them off screen.
  - Throw on the floor to stall mobs while you make you escape.

Acid Potion:

  - Throw on mobs to deal poison damage especially on the location of certain mobs that go invisible not only to spite them, but also for a chance to destroy them off screen.
  - Throw on the floor to delay mobs while you make you getaway.
  - Throw on yourself right after activating the Inversion Scroll to heal yourself.

Teleport:

To help you escape a compromised position;
  - whether it be to escape a pincer attack from two or more mobs,
  -  escape live explosives about to go off right at your feet, or
  - hop over crystal stalagmites blocking a narrow path in order to escape your pursuer(s).

Random Teleport:

Serves two purposes.

Firstly, throw on the floor to teleport a random item to that location with a small chance of summoning an armored mob which will try to end you.

I almost exclusively only use this the instant a Demon Portal opens nearby.

Secondly, throw on a mob to teleport them away to a random location.

I almost exclusively only use this the instant a Demon Portal opens nearby.

I'll throw it on the floor until either the closest demon comes within range or the Armored mob gets summoned. Whichever happens first.

If I'm lucky and said mob gets summoned, I'll cleverly fight alongside it to defeat the demons all the while damaging it enough so that it barely has any health to challenge me with after we've wiped out the demons.

The only other time I use it is to teleport away Crystal Golems and the members of the Mop Up Squad.

I make sure to immediately start excavating after doing this, as walking around increases my chances of running into them again.

Health Crystal:

Heals you a tonne instantly.

Energy Crystal:

Replenishes a lot of your energy instantly.

Resurrection Crystal:

Prevents you from rage quitting when you die.

Stockpiling useful weapons at the entrances to the buildings housing the Ancient ruins and Portal respectively ensures that I can immediately replace weapons and items that where not saved after my demise.

This makes it less painful I'm defeated.
